The Department of Social Welfare and Development said Sunday that the two minors accused in the deadly school shooting in Tacloban City remain under tight security and close monitoring at a Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth.
DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said the two children in conflict with the law are being supervised by social workers, house parents, nurses, and police officers assigned to the facility.
The two suspects are being housed separately and are not allowed to interact with each other or with other residents of the rehabilitation center while assessments are ongoing.
Dumlao said social workers are working to establish rapport with the minors before conducting information gathering and psychological assessments needed to develop appropriate intervention plans.
She added that the minors are not yet allowed to receive visitors, including family members, under existing protocols for children in conflict with the law.
The two students were taken into DSWD custody after authorities identified them as suspects in the June 22 shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, which left three students dead and 20 others injured.
The DSWD said it continues to provide psychosocial interventions and other forms of assistance to the victims, survivors, and their families while working with other government agencies on the rehabilitation of the two minors.
