Donald Trump said a proposed deal with Iran is being reviewed but warned that military strikes could resume if Tehran escalates tensions, as negotiations continue over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
“They told me about the concept of the deal. They’re going to give me the exact wording now,” Trump told reporters before departing West Palm Beach, Florida.
He signaled skepticism over the proposal, adding he could not yet say whether it would be acceptable.
Asked if the United States could restart strikes on Iran, Trump said: “If they misbehave, if they do something bad… it’s a possibility that could happen.”
At the center of the negotiations is the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that handles about 20% of the world’s oil and gas supply.
A senior Iranian official said Tehran has proposed reopening the strait and ending the standoff in exchange for the lifting of US blockades and sanctions, while postponing negotiations over its nuclear program to a later stage.
Under the reported proposal, Iran would allow shipping to resume while broader talks—including limits on its nuclear activities—would follow in a later phase.
Iran has insisted its nuclear program is peaceful and said it remains open to diplomacy if Washington adjusts its approach.
The standoff has disrupted global energy markets, with limited shipping through the strait and mounting concerns over fuel prices and supply shortages.
The United States and Israel suspended their bombing campaign against Iran weeks ago, but no comprehensive agreement has been reached, leaving tensions high and the risk of renewed conflict unresolved.
Analysts say the outcome of the talks could have major implications not only for regional stability but also for global energy prices in the coming months.
