Sara Duterte asks impeachment court to void proceedings

by Philippine Chronicle

Vice President Sara Duterte has asked the Senate impeachment court to declare the impeachment proceedings against her void, arguing that the case was initiated in bad faith and with manifest partiality.

In her 51-page answer to the Articles of Impeachment, Duterte said the proceedings were “void, being attended by evident bad faith and manifest partiality.”

The Articles of Impeachment accuse Duterte of the alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery and corruption during her tenure as Education secretary.

She also faces allegations of grave threats and inciting sedition over her alleged remarks threatening President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

The Senate is scheduled to convene as an impeachment court on July 6 to begin Duterte’s impeachment trial.
