Roads and Transport Authority has urged residents and visitors to use only licensed taxis and vehicles operated by companies accredited by the agency.
According to the RTA, licensed vehicles are monitored through smart control systems designed to ensure passenger safety and security.
The authority warned that riding unlicensed taxis could expose passengers to serious risks, including assault, theft, fraud and other crimes.
In a social media advisory, the RTA said unlicensed vehicles violate Executive Council Resolution No. 6 of 2016, which governs passenger transport services in Dubai.
Violators face a fine of Dh5,000 and the impoundment of their vehicles, the RTA added.
