Senator Raffy Tulfo expressed concern over the partial collapse of a ceiling at the arrival extension area of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, which injured seven people.

Tulfo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, said he has coordinated with Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez to check on the condition of the victims and ensure they are receiving proper assistance.

The senator stressed the need for a swift response in incidents like this to guarantee the safety of those affected and provide them with immediate aid.

Although operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 have returned to normal, Tulfo urged the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to remain proactive in enforcing safety standards in airports across the country.

Lopez told Tulfo that a full investigation into the incident is already underway and assured him that updates will be provided once findings become available.

In a separate statement, New NAIA Infra Corp. said its medical team, airport security personnel, and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group immediately responded and secured the affected area.

The company said inspections have been completed to ensure the site is safe and normal operations can continue.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident. NNIC is working closely with the relevant authorities and will take the necessary action based on the findings,” the company said.

It added that assistance continues to be provided to the injured, stressing that the safety of passengers, airport workers, and visitors remains its top priority.
