Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro has secured Iran’s assurance of safe and unhindered passage for Philippine-flagged vessels, energy shipments, and Filipino seafarers through the Strait of Hormuz.
The commitment was made during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, as both sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Officials said the development is critical for the Philippines, which relies heavily on energy imports passing through the key shipping route.
The assurance is expected to help maintain the steady flow of oil and fertilizer supplies while safeguarding Filipino seafarers operating in the region.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to continued dialogue and diplomatic engagement aimed at maintaining stability and cooperation.
