MANILA: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr on Monday (June 15) greeted US President Donald Trump on his birthday and expressed hope for a lasting and strong relationship between the Philippines and the US.

Trump, the 47th US president, celebrated his 80th birthday on June 14.

“On behalf of the Filipino people, I wish you good health, happiness and continued success in the year ahead,” Marcos said in a social media post.

He also said, “Your leadership continues to shape the direction of the United States at a consequential moment in its history, while influencing developments and discussions on many of the most pressing issues facing the international community today.”

Marcos met with Trump in Washington last July, a meeting that resulted in a one-point reduction in the US tariff rate on Philippine goods.

In his congratulatory message following Trump’s victory in the US elections last November, Marcos said he was eager to work with the Trump administration.

Meanwhile, on Nov 19, 2024, Marcos had a “friendly” and “productive” phone call with Trump, during which he expressed the Philippines’ desire to further deepen its ties with the United States. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
