Duterte blasts impeachment claims as ‘lies,’ hits House probe

by Philippine Chronicle

Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday lashed out at allegations raised during a House impeachment hearing, branding them as “lies” and questioning the credibility of the proceedings.

Duterte directly rebutted claims by witness Ramil Madriaga, who alleged she needed help to finish law school, insisting she passed the Bar on her first attempt.

“The exam that year was relatively difficult. I passed the Bar on my first attempt with a GWA of 80,” she said, adding she never sought special treatment.

She described the impeachment proceedings as a “mini trial,” accusing some lawmakers of engaging in “abuse and corruption.”

Madriaga earlier made explosive claims, including alleged handling of confidential funds and links to questionable financial activities tied to the Duterte camp, though these remain contested.

Lawmakers said key questions remain on the use of the Office of the Vice President’s confidential funds, with some pushing for accountability and the return of disallowed amounts flagged by auditors.

Duterte’s legal team dismissed the allegations as “unverifiable” and maintained they are ready to confront the claims as the impeachment battle escalates.
