A Dubai court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a man seeking to revoke a residential apartment he had gifted to his ex-wife, ruling that the transfer remains legally valid.
The court said the property had been formally transferred and registered in the ex-wife’s name during the marriage, making the gift binding under UAE law.
The claimant argued that the gift was based on the expectation that their marriage would continue, but the court found no legal basis to reverse the transaction after the divorce.
It also clarified that civil courts have jurisdiction over financial disputes between spouses, rejecting claims that the matter should be handled solely by a personal status court.
The court ordered the claimant to shoulder all legal costs, including lawyer’s fees, reinforcing the finality of the property transfer.
