Longtime “The Clash” judge Christian Bautista brushed off online criticism surrounding the show’s newer judges, saying he chooses to focus only on constructive feedback.
Bautista made the statement when asked about the backlash received by younger judges Jillian Ward and JL of BGYO, who recently joined the judging panel of the reality singing competition’s latest season, “The Clash Teens.”
“I don’t listen too much to comments that are so negative and not constructive at all,” Bautista told Inquirer Entertainment on the sidelines of the show’s media conference on Tuesday, May 26.
“Ang pinapakinggan kong mga comments is constructive and giving comments na nag-bibigay ng chance, comments na may sense,” the singer added.
Bautista also emphasized that everyone deserves an opportunity to explore different paths in their careers.
“Everyone has an opportunity. Everyone should have the chance to do something different in their careers. Tulungan lahat kami,” he expressed.
Bautista, who first joined the reality show’s panel in 2018, noted that he simply blocks negative comments online and does not engage with any of them.
Ward and JL’s latest roles were previously held by industry veterans Lani Misalucha and Ai-Ai delas Alas.
There has been a recent online discourse questioning the young artists’ age and singing credentials to serve as judges.
Meanwhile, “The Clash Teens,” which is set to premiere on June 7 on GMA Network, will spotlight young Filipino singing talents to be the next generation of Clashers.
The all-original Filipino reality singing competition is hosted by Clash Masters, real-life celebrity couple Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz. /ra
