CBS News will lay off about 6% of its workforce and shut down CBS News Radio, which has been around for nearly a century, as the network moves to reshape its newsroom amid rapidly changing audience habits and intensifying competition.
The cuts come under new Editor‑in‑Chief Bari Weiss, who has said CBS News needs to adapt to a digital‑ and streaming‑first future to remain competitive with rivals.
As part of the changes, CBS News Radio will end service on May 22, with all positions within the unit eliminated.
The move underscores the broader transformation underway across legacy media organizations as they rethink scale, platforms and priorities in an increasingly fragmented news landscape.
