The camp of former TV host Jay Sonza is questioning the issuance of a non-bailable warrant for his arrest, calling it “highly irregular” given the nature of the charge.
His legal counsel, Atty. Mark Tolentino, said the offense—unlawful publication—is typically considered minor and usually treated as a bailable case or addressed through summons rather than immediate arrest.
The warrant was issued by the Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 118 in connection with alleged false information about the health of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
Tolentino said the defense will file motions to recall or quash the warrant and seek clarification on the application of bail.
The National Bureau of Investigation, which carried out the arrest, said it is up to the court to determine whether bail may be granted, noting that agents simply enforce judicial orders.
Separate cyberlibel charges against Sonza remain pending before another Pasay court, with no arrest warrant issued for that case so far.
