Fresh off an impressive showing with the UP Fighting Maroons at the April 2026 AsiaBasket National Student Athletes Championship (NSAC), young Filipino prospect Andy Gemao is drawing attention far beyond local courts after receiving his first NCAA Division I offer from Penn State Nittany Lions men’s basketball.

Gemao had recently energized UP fans when he suited up for the Fighting Maroons at UP Diliman, where he delivered 19 points in a winning debut against De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde Blazers.
Now, it appears the conversation is shifting from a possible UAAP future to an American NCAA opportunity.
The Penn State offer marks a significant milestone for Gemao, who could soon become the latest Filipino player to pursue a career in the highly competitive US collegiate basketball system.
Should he officially join the program for the upcoming NCAA season in August, he would add his name to the growing list of Filipino talents who attempted to break through overseas including Japeth Aguilar, Ray Parks Jr., Kobe Paras and Kai Sotto.
Gemao acknowledged the offer through Instagram, where he shared his appreciation for the opportunity extended to him by the Penn State coaching staff.
“Extremely honored to be offered by Penn State MBB. Thank you to the coaching staff for the opportunity!” he wrote.
While excitement continues to build around the possibility of Gemao playing Division I basketball, the move could also reshape his path back home.
Once he officially becomes part of an NCAA roster, he would no longer qualify as an out-of-high-school recruit under Philippine collegiate eligibility rules.
