ADB Pours P98 Billion Emergency Lifeline to Philippines Amid Middle East Crisis

by Philippine Chronicle

MANILA — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has stepped up with a massive financial lifeline, offering up to $1.75 billion (around P98 billion) in additional funding to help the Philippines weather the severe economic fallout from the ongoing Middle East conflict.
ADB President Masato Kanda personally delivered the commitment during a high-level meeting with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace on Thursday.

The fresh financing package aims to ease mounting fiscal pressures and boost government support for sectors hammered by soaring fuel and commodity prices. This comes as the country grapples with a national energy emergency triggered by volatile global oil markets.
With fuel costs skyrocketing and supply chain disruptions threatening businesses and households, the ADB’s swift assistance is expected to strengthen the Philippines’ economic defenses and protect vulnerable sectors from further shocks.
This timely boost underscores growing international confidence in the Marcos administration’s ability to navigate global crises while keeping the economy resilient.
The Philippines is not facing these challenges alone — help is on the way, and it’s coming in billions.
