MANILA — Veteran actor Eddie Gutierrez, 84, is cancer-free, according to his daughter Ruffa Gutierrez, who shared the news Tuesday, October 27, during a screening of her film Red Crown in Taguig City.
“I want to share with you the good news, my dad is cancer free,” Ruffa told reporters. She said the family received the news about two weeks earlier but had chosen to keep details of his medical condition private.
Eddie underwent a spinal procedure in Singapore in December 2025 and returned for further treatment in January. At the time, Ruffa said he was recovering from a spinal infection, with improvement in his condition but concerns about his mobility.
In 2021, Ruffa reported that her father had been cleared of prostate cancer after an operation. A family publicist subsequently clarified that a biopsy had shown no cancer. Ruffa did not specify whether the latest assessment concerned a separate diagnosis or his earlier prostate condition.
She thanked supporters who prayed for her father during his treatment, including admirers overseas, as the family coped with uncertainty about his recovery.
Ruffa also dismissed false online reports that her mother, talent manager Annabelle Rama, had died. Fabricated claims about Eddie circulated in February, prompting him to issue a video denial.
Rama, whose birthday is October 31, is managing diabetes and high blood pressure, Ruffa said. The family hopes she will exercise more and improve her diet. Ruffa urged online content creators to stop spreading false stories about celebrities and their families.
