Filipino community in Italy marks 128 years of Philippine independence

Filipinos in Italy gathered to celebrate the 128th anniversary of Philippine independence during a festive event held at the Sala Olympia of the Ergife Hotel in Rome on June 14.

The celebration highlighted the richness of Filipino culture through various performances and presentations by members of the Filipino community, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.

Organized by the Philippine Independence Day Association led by Augusto Cruz, the event was held in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy in Rome headed by Ambassador Neal Imperial.

Adding prestige to the occasion was the recognition of Italy-based Southeast Asian Games athletes, who received the “Parangal para sa Natatanging Kabataan” award for their achievements in sports.

Among the awardees were rhythmic gymnastics gold and bronze medalist Jasmine Ramilo, Hockey 5s team captain Agostino Alfieri, Hockey 5s bronze medalist Clayton Lanting, and windsurfer bronze medalist Arienne Paz.

Meanwhile, Filipino singer Dalph Panopio conveyed a heartfelt message extending his Independence Day greetings to the Filipino community. His parents, Aphol and Edith Panopio, accepted a recognition on his behalf.

The event served as a joyful commemoration of Filipino freedom, heritage, and traditions among overseas Filipinos in Italy. It was directed by Robert Jacinto and Benjamin Vasquez. – ALONA COCHON
