MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday said she had no intention of taking over President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s post, saying she would rather let Filipinos see “until the very end” how “shameless” the president is.

“I have no desire to grab Bongbong Marcos’ position,” Duterte said in Filipino in an ambush interview in Davao City.

“I want the Filipino people to see until the very end just how shameless BBM (Marcos) is,” she added.

Speaking to reporters on Independence Day, Duterte was asked about a claim that retired military officers and other groups had urged her to lead a People Power movement against the Marcos administration.

In response, Duterte said her oath as vice president obliges her to uphold and defend the Constitution.

“I am the constitutional successor. I am the next in line according to our Constitution,” she said.

“As vice president, I took an oath to preserve and defend the Constitution.”
