Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 836 prisoners of different nationalities ahead of Eid Al Adha.
The pardon covers inmates from Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments.
According to UAE authorities, the initiative reflects Sheikh Mohammed’s efforts to bring happiness to the prisoners’ families and give inmates an opportunity to start a new life and reintegrate into society.
Dubai Attorney General Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan said Dubai Public Prosecution, in coordination with Dubai Police, has already begun the legal procedures needed to implement the release order.
The UAE regularly grants prisoner pardons during major religious occasions such as Ramadan and Eid as part of humanitarian and social reintegration initiatives.
