CEBU CITY, Philippines —The Philippine duathlon team delivered a strong showing in the 2026 Asia Triathlon Duathlon Cup, finishing inside the Top 10 in their respective categories during the race held on Friday, May 15, in Tam Chuc, Vietnam.
John Patrick Ciron led the Filipino contingent, finishing fifth in the elite men’s category of the Olympic-distance duathlon. He completed the course in 58 minutes and 22 seconds.
Maynard Pecson placed sixth in 58:56, while Cebuano Franklin Ferdie Yee came in seventh in 59:36. Irienold Reig Jr. secured eighth place with a time of 1:01:13 in a field of 22 athletes in the elite men’s division.

Vietnam’s San Pham Tien topped the race in 57:58, followed by Australia’s Cooper Lee in 58:03. Another Vietnamese athlete, Tri Nguyen Anh, completed the podium in third place with a time of 1:00:07.
In the elite women’s division, Merry Joy Trupa finished seventh among 12 competitors, clocking 1:07:54.
She placed ahead of five Vietnamese athletes in a race dominated by the host nation. Vietnam’s Thi Thuy Van Nguyen won the event in 1:04:39, followed by compatriot Thi Yen Nhu Le in second at 1:05:36, while Singapore’s Xuan Jie Ng took third in 1:06:12.
