MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Sara Duterte honored mothers on Sunday, Mother’s Day, expressing that motherhood is one of the “most challenging yet rewarding” roles of women.
In a video statement, Duterte highlighted the importance of mothers: “To nurture a child and lead a household is one of the most challenging roles any woman can take, but it is also the most rewarding.”
“Tayo ang unang guro ng ating mga anak, ang takbuhan sa oras ng pangangailangan, at ang matibay na pundasyon ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino.”
“We are our children’s first teachers, the refuge in times of need, and the strong foundation of every Filipino family,” she added in Filipino.

In the beginning of her statement, Sara greeted mothers, sharing her own motherhood experience.
“Today, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all mothers, and to those serve as mothers in our homes.”
“As a mother, I know the weight and joy of our role—the silent prayers we offer for our children, the long hours we spend ensuring they are safe, and the constant effort it takes to balance work and family.”

The vice president also recognized the struggles of mothers who are overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“To our OFW mothers, we know that sacrifice is not always about physical presence—sometimes, the greatest sacrifice is the distance you endure to provide for your family. Salamat sa inyong katatagan,” Duterte remarked.
In the same breath, she called on Filipinos to honor the sacrifices and strength of mothers.
“Let us honor the sacrifice and resilience of every mother—from those who care for their children at home to those who work abroad.” /gsg
