More than 52,000 families, or over 199,000 individuals, have been affected by the ongoing unrest of Mayon Volcano, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Monday.

DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said at least 1,444 families, or 5,459 individuals, are currently staying in evacuation centers, while others have sought temporary shelter with relatives.

“Sa katunayan, mayroong mahigit 52,000 na mga pamilya… ang apektado ng pag-aalburoto ni Mayon Volcano,” Dumlao said.

Authorities said 26 families, or 85 individuals, are staying outside evacuation centers with relatives.

The DSWD added that relief efforts are ongoing, with more than 71,000 family food packs, over 1,400 ready-to-eat food boxes, and at least 7,600 non-food items already distributed to affected communities.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the rapid deployment of government assistance, particularly to areas hit by ashfall such as Guinobatan and Camalig in Albay.

The President also directed authorities to open key thoroughfares to speed up the delivery of aid.

Officials said assistance efforts will continue as volcanic activity persists, with residents in high-risk areas advised to remain in evacuation centers for their safety.
