DMW shuts down IELTS center over alleged illegal recruitment scheme

Department of Migrant Workers has ordered the closure of an IELTS review center in Santiago City after it was found allegedly involved in illegal recruitment activities.

The Antoine Review Center was shut down following an investigation that revealed it was offering overseas jobs despite lacking a valid recruitment license.

Authorities said the establishment allegedly posed as a review center while secretly offering employment opportunities in Poland under seasonal and skilled worker programs.

Applicants were reportedly asked to pay processing fees ranging from €3,500 to €5,000, or up to ₱350,000, with promises of high hourly wages.

The center also allegedly offered jobs in Canada, including positions as farm workers, fruit pickers, and warehouse staff.

Investigators found that the business was registered with the Department of Trade and Industry but had no authority to conduct recruitment, prompting recommendations for the cancellation of its registration.

The DMW said those behind the operation may also be included in a watchlist of individuals with derogatory records.

Authorities are urging victims to come forward and seek legal assistance as part of efforts to crack down on illegal recruitment schemes targeting Filipinos seeking work abroad.
