DFA pushes removal of HIV test rule for Filipinos bound for Oman

by Philippine Chronicle

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it has made strong representations to remove the requirement for Filipino travelers to present a negative HIV medical certificate before entering Oman.

The Omani Embassy in Manila clarified that the requirement applies only to tourists availing of visa-free entry, and not to those holding work visas, including overseas Filipino workers.

Officials said the policy is now under review by the Omani government, with a meeting scheduled next week to discuss the matter.

The DFA expressed optimism that the requirement could be lifted, citing the strong diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Oman.

Authorities said they will continue to engage with Omani officials to resolve the issue and ensure the welfare of Filipino travelers.
