The United Nations renewed its call for all parties in the Middle East conflict to comply with international law, stressing that civilian infrastructure must not be targeted.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Secretary-General António Guterres reminded all actors to uphold their obligations during military operations, particularly in protecting energy facilities and other civilian assets.

Officials warned that even if infrastructure is considered a military objective, attacks are prohibited if they cause excessive civilian harm under international humanitarian law.

The UN also confirmed ongoing discussions on forming a task force to ensure the safe passage of humanitarian shipments, including fertilisers and essential materials, through the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General’s envoy for the Middle East conflict is set to travel to the region as diplomatic efforts continue.
