Rider caught counterflowing on EDSA busway

A motorcycle rider tried to counterflow along the EDSA-Santolan flyover when he tried to escape traffic enforcers who spotted him using the busway.

In Raffy Tima’s Thursday report on Saksi, the erring motorcycle rider admitted he violated traffic rules.

“Wala sa katwiran, sir. Alam mo naman tayong mga Pilipino, kung pwedeng takasan ang problema, parang ganun,” the rider said.

(I have no excuse, sir. As you know, we Filipinos are known to find ways to escape problems.)

The motorcycle rider claimed he got scared when he saw authorities of the Department of Transportation-Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr-SAICT) since he had been caught committing the same traffic violation last December and paid a P5,000 fine.

Aside from another P5,000 fine, the rider will also be penalized for reckless driving and counterflowing along EDSA.

Most of the drivers who received traffic violations for illegally using the EDSA busway were motorcycle riders who partially entered the exclusive road section in attempts to avoid the slow-moving traffic.

An ambulance also received a traffic violation ticket despite having a patient onboard since it was not considered an emergency case.

The DOTr-SAICT said ambulances allowed along the EDSA busway are only those with severe emergency cases.

During their two-hour operation, the DOTr-SAICT accosted 30 vehicles using the busway.
