Senator Erwin Tulfo is proposing the return of work-from-home arrangements in both government and private offices as fuel prices continue to rise.
In a statement issued Sunday, Tulfo said employees whose jobs do not require their physical presence in the workplace should be allowed to work remotely.
“If a worker’s physical presence or activity is not required at the workplace, why not just have them report online?” Tulfo said.
He noted that employees handling planning, research, administrative work, customer service, and similar office-based functions can continue performing their duties from home.
For workers who still need to report onsite, Tulfo encouraged ride-sharing and carpooling to lessen transportation costs.
He said employees in industries such as manufacturing, hospitality, restaurants, and hospitals could share one vehicle and divide fuel expenses among themselves.
Several government agencies have already adopted a four-day onsite work arrangement.
