The UP Varsity Pep Squad and the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion joined calls against corruption during their respective halftime performances in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball match on Wednesday.
At the end of their usual routine, the UP Pep Squad broke into chants of “Ikulong na ’yan, mga kurakot” set to the tune of the UP cheer.
“Hindi lang laban sa sayaw, laban din para sa bayan,” the UP Pep Squad wrote in the caption of their uploaded performance.
Meanwhile, the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion wore shirts printed with “KURAKOT IKULONG” during their performance, as documented by Ateneo’s official student publication, The GUIDON.
On the court, UP handed Ateneo its first loss of the season, 83–69.
During the opening of Season 88, popstar royalty Sarah Geronimo also spoke out against corruption in the country.
Highlighting social issues is not new in the UAAP, as the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion also called for the upholding of human rights in one of their halftime performances in 2017.
