MANILA, Philippines — Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift was in a truly giving spirit this Christmas season after donating a million dollars each to two different charity groups.
Non-profit organization Feeding America confirmed last December 23 that Taylor gave them a $1 million (P58.8 million) gift in statement patterned after the singer’s latest album “The Life of a Showgirl.”
“This holiday season, her continued support is a powerful reminder of what is possible when we unite to end hunger,” the organization’s chief executive officer Claire L. Babineaux-Fontenot.
She added that in joining together alongside those facing hunger, we can ensure “families have a full table this holiday season and beyond.”
Taylor had previously donated a sum total of $5 million (P294 million) to the organization for hurricane relief efforts.
Meanwhile, the American Heart Association (AHA) said on the same day that Taylor donated a million dollars in honor of her father Scott, who dealt with cardiovascular disease and underwent quintuple bypass surgery earlier this year.
AHA’s chief executive officer Nancy Brown noted in a statement that the Swift family’s experience with cardiovascular disease is quite common as it affects nearly half of American adults.
“Her commitment to supporting her father will make so many others aware of the need to take their own heart health seriously, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve controllable risk factors — ultimately helping more people live longer, healthier lives,” said Nancy.
The executive added that Taylor’s donation “will create lasting change far beyond its financial value” while the organization said it would “remain ‘Fearless’ in our relentless commitment to prevent heart disease,” a reference to Taylor’s second album.
On Christmas Eve, the MusiCares Foundation of Grammy Awards’ organizer The Recording Academy revealed they received “a generous donation” from Taylor in support of “vital programs, resources, and financial assistance for the music community in need.”
“It takes a village to bring the music fans love to life, and Taylor’s donation helps ensure that all music professionals, across genres and professions, don’t have to choose between a life in music and life-sustaining care,” said MusiCares. “Thank you Taylor for supporting our mission! We protect the family.”
MusiCares’ thank-you social card for Taylor was designed after the friendship bracelets that Swifties created and exchanged during the artist’s sprawling Eras tour.
The Academy of Country Music (ACM) similarly said online it “enchanted” to be a recipient of Taylor’s incredible generosity, a reference to Taylor’s popular song from her “Speak Now” album.
“Her gift ushers in the 20th anniversary of #ACMLiftingLives and serving the Country Music Community, providing music therapy, and lifting lives through the power of music,” said the ACM.
The campaign mentioned assists country musicians struggling economically because of health issues.
“Taylor embodies that all too well! Thank you, Taylor Swift!,” the ACM said, making yet another reference to another popular song this time from Taylor’s “Red” album.
