MANILA, Philippines — Comedian Stephen Colbert had a little fun rattling off Filipino food during a segment of his talk series “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

After performing his standing monologues, Colbert often returns to his desk to humorously announce more bits of news in a segment called “Meanwhile.”

Colbert rapidly says the segment’s introduction as if concocting a recipe with an array of items, and the October 30 episode saw the comedian start with a Filipino touch.

He described his initial monologue as “news pork from Ilocos pigs with fiesta Pinoy brown sugar, paprika and garlic, which I fry in Baguio canola oil to make complex Filipino longganisa sausages,” then gave an unrelated description for the “Meanwhile” segment.

The comedian went on to joke about additional news pieces, including Kourtney Kardashian’s vagina lollipops, “Lord of the Rings” star Elijah Wood crashing a Hobbit-themed wedding, stolen Labubus, new Twix chocolates, and Japanese “butt-breathing.”

Last year Colbert made headlines in Finland after he referenced local dish Poronkäristys (sliced, fried reindeer meat fried with onions), so it remains to be seen with Philippine fans will react the same way.

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” however, will end its run in May 2026 after home network CBS announced it was retiring the long-running show, a decision many people view as having political reasons rather than financial. — Video from “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on YouTube
