Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation has introduced a new 200MP high-resolution smartphone camera sensor—the LYTIA 901.

The Sony LYTIA 901 uses a 1/1.12-type (14.287 mm diagonal) format with a 0.7 μm pixel pitch to achieve its approximately 200-effective-megapixel resolution.

Its design employs a Quad-Quad Bayer Coding (QQBC) array with 4×4 adjacent pixels being clustered with filters of the same color, which allows the sensor to process image data at a default output of 12.5 megapixels for faster performance.

The grouped pixels are rearranged into a standard array to enable the in-sensor zoom capability, which is AI-enhanced by a special processing circuit mounted inside the sensor, an industry first as claimed by Sony. The sensor allows high-speed processing and up to 30fps high-quality video capture when shooting with up to 4x zoom in 4K, according to the firm.

The LYTIA 901 combines DCG-HDR, Fine12-bit ADC, and HF-HDR to maintain tonal precision and detail across bright and dark regions. Its Hybrid Frame HDR (HF-HDR) processing achieves an effective dynamic range of over 100 dB in QQBC mode, which aims to reduce an image’s underexposed shadows and overexposed highlights.

Additionally, the sensor supports video capture at 8K30fps and 4K120fps, as well as 60fps burst shooting at 12.5MP, 30fps at 50MP, and 10fps at 200MP.

According to previous reports, the LYTIA 901 will be incorporated by OPPO and vivo for their next flagship smartphones.

Sony also revealed that the sensor is now being shipped to device makers.
