MANILA, Philippines — A Russian Orthodox Church opened in Bohol on November 23.

The Russian Orthodox Church of the icon of the Mother of God “Quick to Hear” was opened on Panglao Island in Bohol. It is the “first Russian-style Orthodox church in the Philippines and the first of its kind in the Visayas,” according to the Provincial Government of Bohol.

“Built in exactly 500 days, the church symbolizes the growing presence of the Russian community in Bohol and welcomes both Filipinos and international visitors seeking a place of prayer, reflection, and fellowship,” the Provincial Government of Bohol said in a statement.

The church is located in Purok 6, Barangay Dao.

The consecration of the church was led by Metropolitan Sergius of Singapore and Southeast Asia, who is also the Patriarchal Exarch for Southeast Asia.

Sergius also has the “pastoral care” of the Orthodox Churches within the Diocese of the Philippines-Vietnam.

The Russian Orthodox Church is one of the branches of the Orthodox Church in Russia, and its primate is the Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus.

Aside from the newly opened church in Bohol, there are two Orthodox churches in Metro Manila.
