The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has officially welcomed its newest member ahead of the league’s 50th season which formally opens on Sunday.
On Wednesday, the PBA announced that Pureblends Corp. has completed its purchase of the NorthPort franchise, which will now be known as the Titan Ultra Giant Risers.
Pureblends acquired the franchise lock, stock, and barrel.
According to PBA board treasurer Atty. Raymond Zorilla of Phoenix, the sale was approved during the league’s planning session held in Las Vegas.
“We are very happy that we are formally accepted by the PBA. We waited for this event dahil ibang klase itong 50th [anniversary] ng PBA. Expected na when we join them (PBA), we will learn so many things and then we can also expand together with the league,” said Pureblends team governor Emilio Tiu in an update from the PBA website.
Although the franchise was purchased in full, personnel changes were made, with Johnedel Cardel appointed as head coach. He will be joined by assistant coaches Raymund Tiongco, Raymond Valenzona, Maverick Chua, and Lester Alvarez.
The team’s core remains intact, including Calvin Abueva and Joshua Munzon, while also bringing in new additions Von Pessumal, Jeo Ambohot, and Aljun Melecio.
