Philippines: Senator Praises the Approval of $67 Million Funding for Free WiFi

Exciting News: Free WiFi for All!

Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino is thrilled about the recent announcement from the Department of Budget and Management regarding a hefty P3.8 billion fund to roll out the government’s free WiFi program across the country.

Tolentino is calling on the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to spring into action and install 13,462 access points. This expansion aims to boost digital connectivity, especially for those living in remote areas.

He emphasizes that this initiative is a game-changer for people in geographically isolated and disadvantaged locations. “The expansion of internet connectivity is essential, and the beneficiaries will be our communities in need,” he stated.

What’s more, this free WiFi program, championed by the Marcos administration, helps those who struggle financially by allowing them to access popular apps like Messenger and Viber. This means they can easily make free calls and stay connected with family and friends, making life just a little easier for everyone.

The Free WiFi for All Program, led by DICT, is all about providing free and reliable internet access in public spaces. This initiative is backed by Republic Act 10929, also known as the Free Internet Access in Public Places Act, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to connect online.

With this exciting development, a brighter digital future is on the horizon!
