Pauline Gaston not surprised with Chery Tiggo’s 4-2 start in PVL All-Filipino

Pauline Gaston and the Chery Tiggo Crossovers continue their strong start in the PVL All-Filipino Conference as they head into the Christmas break at solo fourth.

Despite all the movements during the offseason, the Chery Tiggo Crossovers find themselves in solo fourth heading into the Christmas break of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

The Crossovers are fresh off their five-set victory over the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 30-28, 20-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-8, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Saturday, December 14.

Among those who stepped up in the win was Pauline Gaston, who finished with 14 points, plenty of which came during the crucial fourth and fifth sets.

“Ang tumatak kasi sa isip ko is ‘yung sinabi ni coach Norman last game, ‘Ang puntos ng isa, puntos ng lahat. Ang error ng isa, error ng lahat,” Gaston said during the post-game press conference.

“It was really our whole team effort. It started with ‘yung mga magagandang pasa ni Jennifer [Nierva] kaya nakapag-deliver ng mga sets ‘yung setter kasi nandiyan na ‘yung magandang pasa, so everything just started to flow come the fourth and fifth set,” she added.

Even with the departure of Eya Laure, EJ Laure, and Buding Duremdes, the Norman Miguel-led squad continues to find ways to grind out wins in the extended season-opening conference.

The Crossovers currently sit with a 4-2 record, cementing themselves as an early semis contender.

But while many are turning their heads with Chery Tiggo’s results, Gaston isn’t too surprised with how her team has performed so far.

“Maganda talaga ‘yung program na pina-plano nila [coaches] lagi. I think you also notice that they’re not afraid to try different things like in the third set, I played utility tapos si ate Ara ‘yung outside,” said Gaston.

“There’s lots of gulat factors because a lot of the players are not afraid to go outside of their comfort zone with the help of our coaches. Kasi ‘yung coaches talaga namin, they push us beyond our limit,” she added.

Gaston and the Crossovers will look to continue their winning ways after the break when they face the Petro Gazz Angels on January 18 at the same venue.
