Newcomer Patrick Pasinos led the way as the revamped De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde-La Salle Green Hills defeated San Beda University, 67-59, in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball tournament on Thursday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
The Grade 11 Pasinos, a transferee from Far Eastern University, delivered an all-around performance with 20 points, 15 rebounds, two blocks, and an assist to power the Greenies.
Benilde-LSGH led by as many as 12 points, 61-49, with under three minutes left in the fourth quarter after three straight baskets from Pasinos. However, the Red Cubs mounted a 10-3 run to close the gap to 64–59 with just 39 seconds remaining.
Still, clutch free throws from Josef Calo-oy and Andre Bautista sealed the win for the Greenies.
For Benilde-LSGH head coach Renren Ritualo, the objective remains unchanged: win the championship.
“I lost a lot of players from last year. I can’t say this is revenge for us because most of them are gone. Only five holdovers, and the rest are rookies,” Ritualo told GMA News Online.
“It’s the same goal every season. Every game, the goal is to win. Hindi kami makokontento — kasi ako, we want a championship. I’ve been really vocal about it. We’re really eyeing the championship.”
Aside from Pasinos, Jaime Teodoro contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, while Jose Calo-oy added 13 points and six boards.
