On the first day of his State Visit to Brunei Darussalam, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. meets with the Filipino community in a gathering at the Bridex International Convention Centre on May 28, 2024.

In an interview with RTVM, Ambassador Marian Jocelyn Tirol-Ignacio said that there are almost 23,000 Filipinos working and residing in Brunei Darussalam. They are a diverse group, with representation in all areas such as educators, nurses, engineers, architects, domestic workers and those in the food, beverage, hotel and restaurant sectors.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, during a bilateral meeting with President Marcos Jr. on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in 2022, recognized the importance of the “large Filipino community in Brunei” and their “invaluable contribution to our socioeconomic development.”
