March 15, 2024
Capping off his three-day State Visit to the Czech Republic, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. meets with the Filipino community in a gathering at the capital city of Prague on March 15, 2024.
To date, there are an estimated 7,300 Filipinos in the Czech Republic. Majority are employed in the processing industry, automotive industry, repairs of appliances, manufacturing, information technology (IT) communications, real estate, health, wellness and household service.
There are also Filipino students pursuing masteral and doctoral degrees in Charles University, the oldest university in central Europe.
In his meetings with the President and Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, President Marcos Jr. noted the country’s recent announcement on the quota increase for Filipino workers to 10,300 per year beginning May 2024 as Czech business companies are increasingly seeking and employing Filipino skilled workers for various industrial and service sectors.
The Chief Executive already conveyed to his fellow leaders that his top priority is ensuring the protection of the rights and well-being of his countrymen, and that the Philippines is ready to cooperate with the Czech Republic for the orderly deployment of Filipinos in accordance with both Czech and Philippine laws. This resulted to the signing of the Joint Communique on the establishment of Labor Consultations Mechanism.
