Marcos Urges Filipinos to Protect Freedom and Defend the Nation

President Marcos called on all Filipinos to cherish their rights and freedoms and to build a country worthy of the sacrifices made by the nation’s heroes. In his message for the 127th Philippine Independence Day, he described freedom as a precious gift that should inspire everyone to work hard and stay dedicated for the country’s progress.

He reminded the people to carry forward the spirit of their ancestors by standing strong against those who try to weaken the nation’s power.

The celebration marks the historic declaration of independence by Emilio Aguinaldo on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite. President Marcos will lead the flag-raising ceremony at Rizal Park in Manila, joined by key officials. The Independence Day parade will showcase cultural performances from different regions of the country.

At the same time, commemorative events will take place in important historical sites across the Philippines, including Cavite, Bulacan, San Juan, Manila, Caloocan, and Pampanga. Senate President Francis Escudero will lead the ceremony at Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan, with local officials joining him.

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro urged Filipinos to unite in protecting the country’s sovereignty and peace. He emphasized that peace is not guaranteed and must be actively defended, especially in a world full of challenges.

Teodoro highlighted ongoing disputes in the West Philippine Sea, where China continues to assert claims despite an international ruling against its “nine-dash line.” Recent clashes between Philippine and Chinese coast guards have raised tensions, underscoring the need for vigilance and unity in safeguarding the nation’s rights.
