MANILA, Philippines — One of the standout acts from the host University of the Philippines is set to energize the opening ceremony of the 87th Season of the UAAP on September 7 at Smart Araneta Coliseum. In a heartfelt tribute to their alma mater, Eraserheads members Ely Buendia, Marcus Adoro, Raymund Marasigan, and Buddy Zabala will embrace the theme for UAAP Season 87: “Stronger, Better, Together.” “We’re thrilled that the Eraserheads will share their magic with the UAAP as we launch Season 87. This aligns perfectly with our theme for the season,” stated Bo Perasol, Director of UP’s Office for Athletics and Sports Development (OASD). “They reached great heights, disbanded, reunited, and now they have come full circle with their homecoming at UP and UAAP. They truly are music icons and legends, representing our national pride.” UP’s announcement follows the band’s recent receipt of the Gawad Oblation Award—the highest honor UP grants its alumni for remarkable contributions and exceptional service—last week at the Diliman campus. This comes on the heels of the inaugural Esports Tournament held at Ateneo to officially launch the 87th Season. Before treating fans to their timeless classics like “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” “Ligaya,” “Magasin,” and “With A Smile,” UP will kick off the season countdown by visiting seven other universities to present them with a symbolic LED-lit torch reminiscent of the Olympic Flame.
