MANILA, Philippines — Happy Animals Club is calling pet lovers to adopt their dogs in Davao City to avoid euthanasia.
In its Facebook page, Happy Animals Club said that they have 144 rescued dogs who need a new home by end of the year through a new location for the shelter or through adoption.
“These are 144 of the dogs in our dog yard. Almost all of these were rescued from dire circumstances and rehabilitated with great effort and expense. They will be taken away by the sheriff of the court and euthanized by the City of Davao unless we can relocate,” the shelter wrote on its Facebook page.
It has raised P1.5 million as of press time. The shelter thanked its supporters and donors; the amount, however, is not enough to buy land and build on it, it said. They have started a GoFundMe page for those who would like to help raise funds for their new location.
“Preparing for a worst-case scenario, we are now putting up all our dogs and cats for Fast Track adoption with online screening,” the shelter said.
Their basic requirements for adopting a pet are “residing in Davao City, with gate (for medium and large dogs) and with screened windows (for cats). A home visit prior to adoption is still required and non-negotiable.”
“Right now there is a strong possibility our animals are getting impounded and euthanized in 36 days. We are still raising funds, but we also need to get as many out of our shelter as possible before December 31, 2025,” it added.
