Her entry into the show came just days before the Senate was set to begin the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. The trial is led by Evangelista’s husband, Senator Chiz Escudero.
Many Filipinos have accused Senator Escudero of delaying the impeachment process. This criticism has extended to the reality show, with some fans saying they will stop watching “Pinoy Big Brother” while Heart Evangelista is part of the cast.
Some senators and legal experts have also expressed frustration over Escudero’s statement that the Senate has not officially started the impeachment trial yet.
Recently, the Senate minority, led by Senators Koko Pimentel and Risa Hontiveros, pushed to formally begin the impeachment proceedings. After a long debate, the Senate voted to send the articles of impeachment to the rules committee. Escudero took his oath as the presiding officer of the impeachment court, while other senators are expected to take their oaths soon.
The formal reading of the charges against Vice President Duterte is scheduled for June 11, just days before Congress adjourns on June 14.
