MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo is looking forward to coming back to the Philippines and see more of the country’s beautiful islands.
Olivia sat down for an interview with Elle magazine ahead of a New York concert where the artist confirmed she was working on a third album.
Toward the end of the interview, deputy editor Erica Gonzales — also a Filipino-American — brought up Olivia’s homecoming Philippine concert last November.
The singer called that Philippine trip special, noting how all the concert’s proceeds went to Jhpiego for the benefit of girls and women’s healthcare.
The concert was also notable for having a standard ticket price of P1,500 and during the show, Olivia donned a sash that read “Miss So Filipina.”

“Just on a personal level, I had just never been to the Philippines and I wasn’t born there. I don’t speak Tagalog very well,” Olivia continued. “I kind of had a chip on my shoulder like, ‘Oh gosh, I hope that they accept me and they see me as a Filipino and I’m a source of pride for them,’ I always wanted that to be the case.”
As such, it meant a lot for Olivia to come visit, be warmly embraced, and welcomed by Filipinos.
“I love the Philippines so much and I can’t wait to go back. And I’m just so grateful to everyone for just welcoming me with open arms. It meant so much,” she added.
Asked further about plans to return, Olivia said she wants to go back perhaps next year to explore outside the capital.
“I went to Manila, but I really want to go to some of the islands next year and swim in the beautiful oceans and see all the beaches. That’s on the agenda,” Olivia ended.
