Arellano University hardly broke a sweat in trumping Emilio Aguinaldo College in straight sets, 25-18, 25-8, 25-14, to stretch its winning streak in the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

The Chiefs turned to AC Guinto and Carl Berdal anew with the former dropping another all-around outing of 12 points, four digs, and five receptions in the lopsided that only lasted one hour and six minutes.

Graduating Berdal chipped in nine markers and six receptions as Jake Pangilinan and Jiwen Sinuto chimed in with eight and seven points each.

With the victory, Arellano have clinched their third straight win ever since dropping a tough four-set loss to De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde to improve to 12-5. The also-ran Generals, on the other hand, slipped to 5-11.

“Bumalik lang ulit kami sa training tapos ‘yung mga nakita naming lapses [against Benilde] inaral lang din namin kaya nakuha namin ‘yung mga games after nu’ng talo na ‘yun,” Arellano head coach Bryan Vitug.

“Binago lang din namin ‘yung mindset namin na naka-focus lang talaga kami sa kung ano ‘yung game namin. Ang sabi ko lang sa kanila na point by point ‘yung focus.”

The Chiefs heeded that call by Vitug against the Generals where Arellano dominated right from the get-go, forcing EAC to commit 23 errors while committing just nine throughout the game.

A Frelwin Taculog attack error allowed Arellano to take a commanding 15-7 lead in the third set before Mark Palatino gave the Generals some hope with back-to-back attacks to cut the deficit to six, 9-15.

But Arellano responded with a 6-1 rampage capped by Adi Villados and Anfernee Curamen’s block on Palatino that made it a massive 21-11 advantage.

With Arellano up by a mile, the Chiefs were able to flaunt their depth with bench players Wainn Cateria and CJ Dominguito powering the finishing blow.
