Arellano University returned to its winning ways after defeating Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17, in the NCAA Season 100 men’s volleyball tournament on Friday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Sports and Cultural Center in Manila.
With the victory, the Chiefs improved to 10-5 and claimed the third spot in the standings.
Arellano had an early 14-10 lead before the likes of Andrew Abeto, Bembem Bautista, and Dave Lardizabal put Letran closer, 15-13. However, Carl Berdal and Jake Pangilinan helped the Chiefs pull away from the Knights while AC Guinto put Arellano at match point. Vince Himzon salvaged one for Letran but a service error by Moi Sumagaysay sealed the victory for the Chiefs.
Guinto had a double-double performance for the Chiefs with 20 points anchored on 17 attacks, to go with 20 excellent receptions. Berdal, meanwhile, had 19 points.
Adrian Villados made 26 out of Arellano’s 27 excellent sets as Pangilinan, Anfernee Curamen, and Jiwen Sinuto chipped in 10 points apiece.
Bautista had 16 points, while Himzon and Lardizabal had 14 and 11 points, respectively, as the Knights slipped to 9-6.
Arellano go against the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA on Sunday, while Letran will face De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on Tuesday.
