Alexandra “Alex” Eala faces Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic in the quarterfinals of the Suzhou Open WTA 125 on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in China.
This marks Eala’s fourth consecutive quarterfinal appearance following her runs at the Guadalajara 125, SP Open, and Jingshan Tennis Open. It is also her sixth quarterfinal showing this year, having previously reached the same stage at the Miami Open in March and the Eastbourne Open in June.
Eala is coming off a tight 7-6(5), 6(3)-7, 7-5 victory over Greet Minnen in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, after defeating Katarzyna Kawa 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in the opening round on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Eala, currently ranked world No. 58, will be up against the more experienced Golubic, 32, a former world No. 35 in 2022. Golubic owns two WTA titles and was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in 2021.
The winner between Eala and Golubic will face world No. 44 Tatjana Maria of Germany in the semifinals. Maria advanced via walkover after Yulia Putintseva withdrew due to illness.
As quarterfinalists, both Eala and Golubic are guaranteed 27 ranking points and $3,450 in prize money.
