The Alas Pilipinas men’s team was commended by the Senate of the Philippines for its historic run in the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship, which was hosted by the country last September.
On Wednesday, the Senate adopted Proposed Senate Resolution No. 143 filed by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, recognizing the team’s achievement in finishing 19th in the tournament.
“Sports brings Filipinos together. This team not only made us proud during the SEA Games, but they also made sure they would pleasantly surprise us,” Cayetano said.
“Honoring Filipino athletes serves a public purpose because their achievements inspire national pride, set standards for sports programs, and justify sustained investment in facilities, training, and athlete support nationwide,” he added.
The resolution also highlighted the performances of veterans Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo, who ranked among the statistical leaders of the tournament before the team’s elimination.
Italy reclaimed the world title, while the Philippines was also named the host of the 2029 FIVB Women’s World Championship.
