TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Sun Moon Pavilion, a high-end Taiwanese restaurant, opened Friday in the Clark Freeport Zone, about a two-hour drive north of Manila.
CNA reported that the restaurant serves upmarket Taiwanese and Chinese dishes to business groups, tourists, and local diners. Officials, Philippine government representatives, and Taiwanese business leaders attended the opening ceremony.
BB International President Wu Wen-hsu (吳文旭) said Clark has attracted more international companies, golfers, language students, and families in recent years. Improved transport links have also increased demand for restaurants and event venues, he said.
Wu said the restaurant hopes to show that Taiwanese food extends beyond night market dishes. It also aims to introduce the nation’s service culture and hospitality through high-quality dining.
Taiwan’s Deputy Representative to the Philippines Dustin Teng (楊登仕) said the opening reflected continued business confidence in the Philippine market. He added that the restaurant could help strengthen economic and trade ties between the two countries.
Teng said direct flights between Taoyuan and Clark, together with visa-free entry for Taiwanese visitors, have made travel more convenient. These links could bring more tourists, business travelers, and investment between the two countries, he said.
Clark Development Corporation Chair Agnes Devanadera said Taiwan is well known among Philippine travelers for its food. She said the new restaurant gives visitors to Clark another option for dining, Economic Daily News reported.
The restaurant is named after Sun Moon Lake, one of the country’s best-known tourist destinations. It includes an event hall, private dining rooms, a glass-walled dining area, an outdoor bar, and a fountain plaza.
Taiwanese chefs prepare dishes including Peking duck, roast suckling pig, slow-cooked beef ribs, and seafood. The restaurant imports seasonings and specialty ingredients from Taiwan while also using produce from the Philippines.
Clark has developed into an important business and tourism center in northern Luzon. Its international airport and improving transport links have also made the area more accessible to overseas visitors and investors.
