MANILA — The Philippines and Canada are ramping up collaboration in tourism and key economic sectors, signaling a fresh push to draw more Canadian travelers and boost bilateral business ties.
The Department of Tourism (DOT), led by Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay, held high-level talks with Canadian officials this month to expand people-to-people connections and unlock new opportunities between the two nations.

On May 6, 2026, the DOT engaged Canadian Ambassador H.E. David Hartman to explore programs that will stimulate travel and cultural exchanges. Just a week later, on May 13, Canadian Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State for Small Business and Tourism Rechie Valdez led another bilateral meeting. Discussions went beyond tourism to include agriculture, trade, and science-based innovation.
Both sides highlighted tourism’s vital role in driving economic growth while stressing the need to balance development with environmental protection.
The Philippines expressed strong optimism about welcoming more Canadian tourists. Canada currently ranks as the country’s fifth largest tourism source market in 2025.
DOT’s clear message: Stronger partnerships with Canada will not only bring more visitors but also create meaningful economic wins for both countries while preserving natural treasures.
