MANILA — The impeachment process against Vice President Sara Duterte took a major step forward on Wednesday night as the Senate formally accepted the Articles of Impeachment transmitted by the House of Representatives.
Senate Secretary Mark Llandro “Dong” L. Mendoza and Deputy Secretary for Legislation Atty. Marivic Laurel Garcia received the sealed boxes containing the documents at exactly 7:22 p.m. on May 13, 2026, from House Secretary General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil.

The transmittal includes House Committee Report No. 261 on House Resolution No. 989, officially titled “Resolution Setting Forth the Articles of Impeachment Against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte,” along with supporting annexes and USB devices containing digital copies of the files.

This delivery marks the official start of the Senate’s involvement in the high-profile proceedings, shifting the spotlight to the upper chamber as it prepares to convene as an Impeachment Court in the coming days.
With the documents now in Senate hands, the stage is set for what could become one of the most significant political trials in recent Philippine history. All eyes are now on the Senate as it begins its constitutional duty.
The case continues to unfold.
