Jim Corpuz, one of the holdovers from last season’s championship team, continued his solid outing after leading the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA to a 70-62 win over Lyceum of the Philippines University in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball on Sunday at the Filoil Centre.
The 18-year-old guard erupted for a double-double outing of 14 points and 11 rebounds together with five assists and two steals off the bench as the reigning champions improved to 2-0 in Group A.
Arkin Cristobal was also huge for the Las Piñas crew after posting 15 points, nine rebounds, and two steals while Kurt Patalinghug chipped in six markers, four boards, and one assist.
Steven Creus paced the Junior Pirates with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Khian Panerio and Lamarcus Pelayo chimed in with 10 and nine markers apiece.
A Pelayo jumper trimmed LPU’s deficit to three that gave the Junior Pirates a small breathing room, but Perpetual caught fire from downtown with Don Rosales and Corpuz each firing a triple to send the Junior ALTAs to a 66-57 cushion.
Creus then answered with a personal 3-0 run, but Cristobal knocked down a jumper off a Renzo Zanoria dish for a 68-60 lead in the final 1:27.
Zanoria then completed his own jumper to seal the second victory in as many games for Perpetual.
